Phase Change Material – [...] (2020)
Undertaken for a large, world-leading consumer goods company, this project sought collaborations with startups developing phase shifting/phase changing (e.g. barocaloric, elastocaloric, mechanocaloric, etc.) materials in order to discover the manufacturability, applicability, and shortcomings of such materials for potential use in consumer products. The client’s desired outcome was the identification of such a material and the exploration of a functional prototype that can demonstrate a substantial change in phase (temperature) achieved by mechanical pressure, heat, or other stimuli that can be generated by a human.
The project required a global outlook, and the utilization of resources that reflected this, with solutions at all stages of development considered. A secondary focus of this project was identification and matching of potential incubation and acceleration partners with the client. This was undertaken with the intention of developing relationships that might provide the client a pipeline of relevant ventures in the given field, for potential future collaboration or acquisition.
